Title:Senior Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry

Reporting to the VP of Chemistry, this position will have responsibility for contributing to medicinal chemistry efforts on our infectious disease programs, to help drive toward candidate selection in a very time-efficient manner. The successful applicant will display excellent collaboration skills, exceptional communication ability, and a commitment to achieving goals for long-term company success.


  • Designing, synthesizing, and conducting lead optimization of novel chemical series, in a highly pragmatic and team-oriented manner, to deliver development candidates
  • Working collaboratively with the Biology Team to execute discovery programs with ambitious goals
  • Assisting in creating a cooperative and effective medicinal chemistry team, leading by example, and through peer-mentoring of team members
  • Investigating and, where appropriate, implementing a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to advance project goals
  • Preparing and publishing manuscripts in recognized journals and presenting at meetings
  • Education:
    • PhD degree or equivalent in organic or medicinal chemistry, or
    • MS degree with 8+ years of drug discovery experience
  • Experience:
    • >5 years as a senior level medicinal chemist in a multidisciplinary R&D team in drug discovery, with a demonstrated track record in the chemical design and synthesis of novel drug candidates
  • Required Skills:
    • Expert knowledge in the methods of synthetic and medicinal chemistry
    • Working knowledge of scientific principles and technologies across the drug discovery and development process from hit identification to candidate selection, including
      • An understanding of computational chemistry methods, predictive ADME assessment methods, and properties of successful drug candidates
      • A working knowledge of other aspects of drug discovery and development (biochemistry, disease pharmacology, mechanisms of drug metabolism and molecular toxicology, PK/PD/efficacy relationships)
    • A track record of publishing, patenting, and/or presenting at scientific conferences
    • Excellent time management, teamwork, and communication skills
    • Excel at detail-orientated laboratory work and record-keeping
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office and chemistry-based computer software and informatics tools
